Sangoma P-Series Phones: Honest Review & Expert Opinions

Choosing the right endpoint devices for a VoIP system is a crucial decision for every administrator and business owner. Sangoma P-Series Phones were introduced to the market as the natural successors to the legendary Digium D series, promising even deeper integration with FreePBX and PBXact. For many integrators, this was a great unknown – would the successor live up to the predecessor?

At Phones Rescue, we have tested these devices in the field, deploying them for clients with varying requirements. In this comprehensive review, we will check what Sangoma P-Series Phones offer in practice, looking at the entire series: from the budget-friendly P310, through the flagship P330 model, to the PM200 expansion module. We will analyse their real-world capabilities, compare technical specifications, and verify community opinions.

    What Distinguishes Sangoma P-Series Phones?

The P-Series was designed by the creators of FreePBX (Sangoma), which in theory gives them a huge advantage over competitors such as Yealink, Fanvil, or Grandstream. The main asset here is the ecosystem. Sangoma P-Series Phones are created to “talk” to the PBX in a way that other brands cannot without complicated workarounds.

The most important business difference is the licensing model. When buying a Sangoma phone, you receive the full functionality of the Endpoint Manager (EPM) module and Phone Apps in the price of the device. This “Plug & Play” approach aims to minimise the time needed to deploy the system at a client’s site.

Overview and Positioning of P-Series Models

The product family formed by Sangoma P-Series Phones has been divided into four distinct segments to cover the needs of every employee in the company:

Sangoma P-Series Phones: Honest Review & Expert Opinions 1

    1. Entry Level: P310 and P315

These are the workhorses designed for places where a phone is simply used for calling, but maintaining modern standards. Unlike the competition, which still uses monochrome screens in budget models, basic Sangoma P-Series Phones focus on colour.

    • P310: A basic model equipped with a 2.4-inch colour display (320×240 pixels). It supports 2 SIP accounts and has physical navigation keys. Its main limitation is the 100 Mbps network port, making it ideal for places where the network is not a priority (kitchens, corridors). Note: According to the specifications, models in this series do not support Visual Voicemail applications.
    • P315: A twin of the P310 model, but much more versatile thanks to the Gigabit Ethernet port. This is the absolute minimum in today’s offices, where a computer is often connected “through the phone”, and we cannot afford to slow down the employee’s connection.

    2. Mid-Range: P325 (Successor to P320)

This is the most frequently chosen model for the typical office desk (“Knowledge Worker”). The jump in quality compared to the P31x series is huge here, mainly due to the matrix used. This model proves that Sangoma P-Series Phones can combine high ergonomics with a reasonable price.

    • Screen and Functionality: This model features a 4.3-inch IPS display (480×272 pixels), which ensures much wider viewing angles and better colour reproduction.
    • Performance: It supports up to 6 SIP accounts and has 6 physical line keys. Importantly, thanks to the pagination key, the user has access to 20 virtual keys (e.g., for speed dial or BLF monitoring).
    • Connectivity: As standard, we get a USB-A 2.0 port, which can be used to record calls or connect a headset.

    3. Executive Level: P330 and P370

The most advanced Sangoma P-Series Phones, namely the P330 and P370 models, are flagships designed for management staff and places where a lack of cabling and the highest functionality count.

    • P330: This is a true communications powerhouse. It supports up to 12 SIP lines. Its biggest advantage is built-in wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi (Dual Band 2.4/5G) and Bluetooth 5.0. Thanks to this, the phone can be placed in the CEO’s office without running a LAN cable, and wireless headphones pair directly with the device without the need for USB dongles. It also has two USB ports.
    • P370: A model for the most demanding users, equipped with a huge 7.0-inch touchscreen (IPS, 1280×800). Sangoma has abandoned physical line buttons here in favour of a touch interface that supports up to 16 SIP accounts. This device acts not only as a phone but also as a communication control centre in the company.

    4. For Reception and Secretariat: PM200 Expansion Module

For workstations handling a huge number of calls, such as receptions, Sangoma has prepared a dedicated sidecar. This module perfectly complements higher-end Sangoma P-Series Phones, increasing their operational capabilities.

    • Display and Keys: The PM200 is not just a standard “keyboard with paper inserts”. It has its own 4.3″ colour IPS screen, which perfectly matches the design of the P325/P330 phones.
    • Capacity: Physically it has 20 keys, but thanks to the page switching function (3 pages), it offers up to 60 programmable BLF/Speed Dial buttons.
    • Compatibility: This is crucial information – the PM200 module works exclusively with P330 and P370 models. You cannot connect it to the cheaper P325, which is an important factor when planning a budget for the reception.

Why Choose Sangoma P-Series Phones? (Advantages)

If your priority is ease of configuration and utilising the full potential of FreePBX, Sangoma P-Series Phones are unrivalled.

    1. The Power of Phone Apps

This is a real “Game Changer”. In most VoIP phones (e.g., Yealink, Grandstream), to handle advanced PBX functions, you must remember service codes (e.g., *97 for voicemail, *70 for parking). Sangoma does this differently.

Thanks to tight integration, Sangoma P-Series Phones display dedicated, visual applications:

    • Visual Voicemail: (Available from model P325 upwards). You see a list of recorded messages with the date and sender’s number. You can listen, rewind, or delete a specific message without tediously clicking through the IVR voice menu.
    • Parking Lot: You see visually which calls are “parked” and can pick them up with one button. Ideal for environments where calls are transferred between departments.
    • Presence & Status: Changing status to “Do Not Disturb”, “On Lunch”, or “Meeting” is done via an interactive menu that automatically changes the call routing logic in the PBX.
    • Conference: Managing teleconference participants (muting, kicking) directly from the phone screen.

    2. Zero Touch Provisioning and Cost Reduction

Out of the box, the phone automatically connects to the Sangoma redirection server. All you need to do is assign the device’s MAC address to a specific user in the FreePBX admin panel. The phone will download the configuration, firmware, and company wallpaper itself.

Moreover, you avoid the costs of an EPM (Endpoint Manager) licence. For phones of other brands, this module is paid (and not cheaply) if you want to manage them centrally. In the case of Sangoma, this tool is free and built-in.

    3. Unified Ecosystem

By using hardware and software from a single supplier, you avoid the classic “blame game” in IT support. In case of sound quality issues or dropped calls, Sangoma support cannot say “it’s the phone manufacturer’s fault”, because they are the phone manufacturer.

The Dark Side of the Coin: Opinions and Problems of the P-Series

Despite many advantages, the launch of this series was not without controversy. Searching through FreePBX community forums and reviews by independent integrators, one can come across bitter words, especially in the context of the P330 model. As Phones Rescue, we value honesty, so we must mention this.

    1. Build Quality and “Plasticity”

Many users who previously used the robust Digium D65 phones claim that Sangoma P-Series Phones feel cheaper to the touch. The casing is lighter, and the plastic seems thinner than in Yealink’s armoured T5 series. On the FreePBX forum, critical voices appeared regarding the design of the P330 model – users note that the bezels around the screen are very wide, which makes the device itself large, but the workspace (screen) does not impress with its size compared to the body of the phone.

    2. Software Evolution and Teething Troubles

The thread “Disappointed with P330 and PhoneApps” on the official Sangoma forum sheds light on the problems that plagued this series shortly after its premiere. The transition from XML technology (used in Digium phones) to a modern API based on JavaScript initially caused performance drops. Users complained about:

    • Delays in interface response (lag).
    • Changed logic of function buttons, which required changing habits.
    • Longer boot time compared to the competition.

Important Update: Sangoma took these opinions very seriously. Firmware updates released in 2024 and 2025 solved the vast majority of performance issues. The system now runs smoothly, and the stability of Wi-Fi connections in the P330 model has been significantly improved.

    3. Screen in the P330 Model

Although it is a higher-priced model, some reviewers point out that the matrix quality (viewing angles and black saturation) is slightly inferior to screens used in the latest Yealink T54W or Grandstream GRP2615 models. Interface text is sometimes perceived as too small, which, combined with the rather large physical size of the device, causes a certain aesthetic dissonance.

Sangoma P-Series Phones vs Yealink: What to Choose?

This is the most common question we hear at Phones Rescue. The decision comes down to a choice between total integration and hardware quality.

When to choose Yealink (e.g., T5 series)?

Yealink is a global hardware leader. Their phones are armoured, keys have perfect travel, and sound quality (Handset and speakerphone mode) is reference class. Choose Yealink if:

    • You care about a prestigious look and “heavy”, solid equipment on the desk.
    • You already have a commercial EPM (Endpoint Manager) licence or plan to configure phones manually/via scripts. It is worth emphasising: Yealink works excellently with FreePBX. Lack of an EPM licence does not block the phone’s operation – it only hinders its mass, central management and configuration changes “on the fly” from the server level.
    • You need specific hardware functions (e.g., a specific type of sidecar console).

    When to choose Sangoma P-Series?

    Choose Sangoma if:

    • You want to give employees access to Visual Voicemail and queue management straight from the phone screen. This saves a lot of time in daily work.
    • You are building a Call Centre based on FreePBX and want agents to log in and out using buttons on the screen.
    • You want to avoid additional licensing costs for management software (EPM is included in the phone price).
    • You value “peace of mind” during updates – you can be sure that a new version of FreePBX will not “break” the phone autoprovisioning.

    Summary

Sangoma P-Series Phones are devices that have matured over time and shed their teething troubles. Although in terms of pure materials and aesthetics they may slightly lag behind premium Yealink models, they make up for it with unrivalled software intelligence.

For a FreePBX administrator, they constitute a huge facilitation of work (Zero Touch, free EPM). For the end-user – they offer functions (Phone Apps) that make operating the telephone system cease to be frustrating.

At Phones Rescue, we recommend the P-Series to clients for whom functionality and integration of the VoIP system is a priority. However, if you are looking for jewellery for the CEO’s desk – look towards the Yealink T54W, but put the Sangoma P325 in the sales and customer service department.
